Beautiful Artichokes in Puglia
After a two year search rejecting who-knows-how-many Italian artichokes, we were lucky to find Antica Valle d'Ofanto Sanferdinandese s.r.l. - O.K. it is a mouth full; thank heavens they abbreviated it to AVO, a truly innovative company in sun-drenched Puglia. All the previous artichokes we tasted were drenched in vinegar or were much too expensive. AVO managed to produce perfect artichokes with a delicious well-balanced flavor at a remarkably affordable price. Almost all of their production is raised on their own farm then they are delicately braised and packed in safflower oil to keep a neutral taste, which is preserved in the glass jars.
These whole artichokes with stem have a crisp, clean, natural taste of pure artichoke.
